Lady Gaga’s dress looks like it’s on backwards Why? Because we can kinda see her bra

It’s always so embarrassing to catch those accidental wardrobe mishaps when you’re out in public, but Lady Gaga doesn’t seem to notice (or care?) that her dress looks like there’s a chance it could be on backwards. Thankfully, she was wearing a bra! We know because we can TOTALLY SEE IT AND HER MORE-THAN-AMPLE BOSOM.

The “Marry The Night” singer was photographed leaving her hotel in New York City, and we’re trying to figure out if her pose is a sudden realization that it’s a bit too nippy (wordplay!) this time of year for that wardrobe option — OR — if she was just working the Toni Braxton “who me?!” pose.

Judging by her always-provocative style, Gaga’s the PERFECT person to start an organization that focuses on celebrating diversity and individuality in young people like with her recently launched “Born This Way” Foundation. We just want all you kids to know that you can be just as unique while keeping your cleavage more of a mystery than Mother Monster.

She may make tamer sartorial choices than her oldest child, but one look at Lady Gaga‘s mom, Cynthia Germanotta, and it’s clear where the “Marry the Night” singer gets her gorgeous looks.

The radiant 57-year-old is currently taking her turn in the spotlight for a good cause, serving as a spokeswoman for the Born This Way Foundation, an anti-bullying and teen advocacy group she co-founded with her pop star daughter. (The group officially launched Wednesday during an event at Harvard University.)

Gaga, 25, has talked publicly about how close she is to her family–and credits her mother with inspiring her passion for style. “I was very much like my mother [growing up],” the “Bad Romance” chanteuse (born Stefani Germanotta) told Vanity Fair in October. “She would do her hair every morning and get dressed nice. I just liked to be glamorous. It made me feel like a star.”

For her part, it seems Germanotta is equally as admiring of Gaga–especially when it comes to the singer’s work ethic. “She’s a great businesswoman,” Germanotta told The Daily Beast about starting the foundation with her daughter. “I think I’m learning from her now.”

NME Name Lady Gaga's Born This Way 'Most Pretentious Album Ever'

Earlier this week, British music magazine NME released a list of what they deemed the ’10 Most Pretentious Albums Ever’.

The list included The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Machina/Machines of God’ and the Lou Reed and Metallica joint effort ‘Lulu’.

But top of the list was Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.

NME writer Priya Elan wrote, “On Born This Way, [Gaga] seemed to believe in her own hype, convinced she had a message to share. Cue an album of unwieldy ‘anthems’ that couldn’t mask the fact that the fun had left the building.”

In response to the vicious jab, Lady Gaga has taken to Twitter.com to defend herself.

She wrote, “Oh the irony of winning ‘Most Pretentious Album Ever’ from none other than NME. *eyeroll* I might laugh forever (and) then return to narcissism.”

Lady Gaga is making headlines this week, but not for one of her lavish costumes. It’s for the launch of her Born This Way Foundation. She’s flying 18 young people from California to Massachusetts to take part in a conference about acceptance and empowerment.

One local youth leader from Kern County is thrilled she was selected to go.

“I think it’s great, I’m glad that she’s putting her money back into the communities,” said Berenice Sanchez, who lives in Lamont.

Sanchez is a freshman at Bakersfield college and just recently turned 19. She did various community service projects as a student at Arvin High School. Since she started college, she has been active with the California Endowment’s “Building Healthy Communities” organization. The group has 14 in the state, which target underserved neighborhoods, and is partnering with Lady Gaga’s Foundation. Out of the some 20 members in the South Kern group, Sanchez says she doesn’t know how she was picked.

“It was a huge shock,” she said. “I just got a call last month and am so excited.”

She says she loves Lady Gaga’s stance against bullying because she used to get picked on in high school.

“Thank God that I wasn’t picked on that much,” she said. “But there have been cases because I’m a feminist, I’m Hispanic and a part of the LGBT community.”

Playing her guitar and painting pictures serve as an outlet for Sanchez on days she feels down. She says she looks to Lady Gaga for inspiration.

“Because she’s so out there, she wears meat as a dress, she does her hair big and bold, and she’s saying I’m weird, but I’m here and I’m a person,” Sanchez said.

The nonprofit foundation will hold its debut event at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Oprah Winfrey and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius are scheduled to join Lady Gaga for the conference. The California youth will be trained on how to advance social change through digital media.

Sanchez’s mother says she was worried because her daughter has never traveled out of the state before but understands that the event is for a worthy cause.

“She’ll be out there all by herself,” said Maria Sanchez, her mother. “But she’s a good kid, we’re honored and very, very happy.”

The Born This Way Foundation will address issue, such as self-confidence, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development. Some of Sanchez’s neighbors in Lamont say they are proud Sanchez was selected from their small, agricultural town.

“That’s even better knowing that someone from here is going, and I know her,” said Yasmine Pineda, who went to high school with Sanchez. “It’s so great and exciting.”

Sanchez heads to Los Angeles on Sunday. She and the other 17 youth leaders will meet there before they go to Boston. She will be there for 5 days and has not started packing yet. She says she is a little nervous but won’t get star-struck because she’s focused on learning.

“I want to go to the event and learn from it,” she said. “And bring it back to my community and share all the information.”

Since the inception of the Gaga machine, her message has been to love yourself, flaunt your difference, be you in a conformist youth culture. As a 20-year-old struggling for an alternative sexual expression to “sexpot”, my interest was piqued. She was young and raw, full of a singular energy that demanded attention, with a decent set of pipes… so what was the catch? The catch was the patriarchal bargain.

A patriarchal bargain, as Lisa Wade wrote in a previous post, is:

…a decision to accept gender rules that disadvantage women in exchange for whatever power one can wrest from the system. It is an individual strategy designed to manipulate the system to one’s best advantage, but one that leaves the system itself intact… Don’t be too quick to judge; nearly 100% of women do this to some degree.

Even Lady Gaga.

Gaga, as weird and anti-Britney Spears sexy as she is, still exhibits sexiness that appeals to the male gaze. At times, it is positively pornographic. That is Lady Gaga’s patriarchal bargain. Despite bucking traditional rules of femininity with innovative fashion elements, she upholds contemporary standards of beauty and sex appeal. Her method is achieved through the use of palatable distractions: telephones as headwear, shamelessly poisoning ex-lovers, and dancing in flawless skeleton makeup. Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle and they won’t even notice that she’s a skinny white woman gyrating in underwear.

Bad Romance:

Telephone:

Throughout her body of work there is a thread of what we know all too well:  ass-shaking, barely-there nudity and conspicuous consumption, just in an offbeat fashion. Gaga is bonkers, but Gaga is sexy. Gaga is political and outspoken, Gaga is skinny and [often] blond.  Indeed, “Mother Monster” may uplift her fans because of her affinity for oddness, but lest we forget, she is a lady and must inhabit the flesh that adheres to gender norms and restrictions, she reminds us:

“I would rather die than have my fans see me without a pair of heels on. And that’s show business.”

If you want to ride the ride, you have to pay the price.  And that price is patriarchy.

Miranda Lambert Kevin Winter, Getty Images

Miranda Lambert’s On Fire Tour took her to Greensboro, N.C. this week, where she stepped totally out of the box and included a cover we’ve yet to see a country artist take on: Lady Gaga‘s ‘You and I.’ Lambert whipped out a killer performance of the song, adding enough of her sass and grit to make it sound like a Lambert or Pistol Annies original made famous by a pop star.

She made the song a bit more personal by changing the lyric “Nebraska guy” to “North Carolina guy,” which garnered big praise from the local audience. Then, the second time around she gave a subtle shout out to hubby Blake Shelton by changing the words to “Oklahoma guy.”

Lambert delivered such a solid and fun performance on this song that we’re left wondering if perhaps it has anything to do with her newfound friendship with the ‘Born This Way’ guise-sporting diva. After sitting beside the black veil-clad superstar at the 2012 Grammys, Lambert seemed to have a new appreciation for and friendship with Gaga. Like an excited kid on the playground who just found a new pal, Lambert tweeted  “Y’all. I have a new friend! @ladygaga from NYC and a Texas girl. Who knew! She is really sweet! The odd couple… well not really!”

We don’t know how deep that friendship runs and whether or not the country star will be pulling Miss Gaga onstage with her anytime soon for a proper duet of ‘You and I,’ but her North Carolina performance was a nice tribute nonetheless.
